Join us for A Teapot in a Tempest, a playful and imaginative event for all who are navigating the climate emergency. While some may still imagine climate change as merely a tempest in a teapot or a storm in a teacup, we believe it’s time to acknowledge the crises already unfolding around us and come together to share our tea for Earth. This gathering invites audiences and fellow artists in Edinburgh to celebrate our continued creative advocacy with the Climate Change Theatre Action (CCTA) and to inspire joyful, collective climate action. Please feel free to drop in for part of the event, or stay for the whole thing!

Part 1: Climate Justice Tea Time. Our event kicks off with Climate Justice Tea Time, a relaxed and welcoming networking session for creative minds exploring the climate crisis. Hosted by participatory theatre company Blooming Ludus since 2020, you can enjoy a cuppa while Haeweon facilitates a lively discussion using prompts from this year’s CCTA theme, “The Time is Now.” Feel free to share your thoughts aloud or jot them down on paper. This special tea time also marks the 10th anniversary of both Climate Change Theatre Action and Blooming Ludus! This part will run for approximately 45 minutes. Don’t forget to bring your cup or tumbler for tea!

Part 2: Play-Reading Open Jam. Next up is our play-reading open jam, where everyone is invited to explore and improvise with selected CCTA 2025 plays. This is your chance to get imaginative with your voice, music, movements, objects, or any creative tools you have! We’ll have one or two microphones set up on stage, along with instruments and props for you to experiment with. You’re more than welcome to bring your own instruments or props if you fancy. This jam session will last about 30 minutes. (Please inform us of any potential health and safety risks related to what you’re bringing, if applicable.)

Part 3: Improvised Performance by Haeweon (Blooming Ludus) and Jaehyun (I Moment). To round off the event, enjoy an improvised performance, a collaboration between Blooming Ludus and Korean company I Moment. This summer, two performers from Korea, but based in different cities, began a creative conversation about climate change, drawing from their diverse experiences and explorations of various issues. They’ll reimagine and share selected CCTA plays using their unique performance languages, focusing primarily on body and objects. This performance will run for approximately 45 minutes, including a brief feedback session with the audience.

CCTA plays included in this event are: Canary by Hanna Cormick, Us in The Past by Nathan Ellis, Bare Spaces by Angie Emurwon, Earth Duet by EM Lewis, A Letter from the Ocean by Caridad Svich, and So This is the Last Apple Pie by Haeweon Yi.
