Bonfire Collective – Artistic Retreat for Youth Artists

Oct 22021

September 14 @ 6:22 am

What might an equitable, sustainable, and just society look like? What is the role of artists moving us forward together? Penguin Productions partners with the Seattle Repertory Theater for a weekend centering relationship and collaboration, as we deepen our theatrical toolbox and explore ideas for performance, storytelling, and the future.

The Climate Change Theater Action festival plays will serve as foundation and inspiration, and we will take inspiration from this remarkable collection of 50 short plays from around the world to springboard into our own voices, bodies, words, and passions. The plays that will be used include:

Keith Barker – MY APOLOGY
Nicolas Billon – THE PENGUIN
Wren Brian – WHEN
Paula Cizmar – THE PAGEANT
Karen Elias – THE PERSISTENCE OF POSSIBILITY
Dylan Thomas Elwood – MIZHAKWAD (THE SKY IS CLEAR)
Alister Emerson – MOO! BE QUIET! LAMBCHOP’S SECRET MISSION TO STEAL EVERY COW IN THE WORLD
Georgina Escobar – ALL ITS TAINTED GLORY
Miranda Rose Hall – THE OYSTERS
Whiti Hereaka – A WINDOW
Yvette Nolan – RANGER
Corey Payette – GREEN NEW STEAL
Thomas Peterson – PAYING FOR IT
Caity-Shea Violette – BEDTIME STORY FOR MY (FUTURE) DAUGHTER
Haeweon Yi – SO THIS IS THE LAST APPLE PIE

The Retreat culminates with a “show and tell” sharing of CCTA plays and works-in-progress. It’s followed by an eight-week Playwright Cohort session and the Bonfire Collective New Play Festival December 11th and 12th.
