A LETTER FROM THE OCEAN

A site-specific performance created by Master’s student Roula Lymniati, based on the text A Letter from the Ocean by Caridad Svich.
In this performance, site-specific theatre is used to explore human beings’ disconnection from nature. The performance will take place partly indoors, in the university building, and partly outdoors in an area on campus surrounded by trees.
The performance is part of the exam for the course DRA3000: Practical Introduction to Arts-based Research. Supervisor for the project is associate professor Heli Hannele Aaltonen. Music is by Sjur Viken and Einar Furunes.
The first-year students of the Bachelor’s program in Drama and Theater at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology have been community partners on the project. Together, we had a workshop in which role-play and improvisation were used as tools to reflect on the climate crisis and how we can take action for change. After the performance, the audience will be asked to suggest NGOs that work on nature protection to receive a donation from the production.
