Climate Change Theatre Action: Play-Reading Gathering

November 11, 2023
1:00 – 4:00pm

Anushka K Jajodia is hosting a small gathering of 15 people at her home where she usually has music performances. No professional play-reading experience is required! It’s her first time reading a play too.

Context: The gathering is based on the work and resources of ‘Climate Change Theatre Action.’ They use storytelling and live performances to talk about the global climate crisis and inspire action. They collaborate with artists – representing all inhabited continents as well as several cultures and Indigenous nations and commission 50 professional playwrights to write five-minute plays about an aspect of the climate crisis based on a prompt. This year’s theme is inspired by Octavia Butler’s journal entry, “All Good Things Must Begin.” Their collection of plays are accessible to anyone who wants to organize an event!

Bonus gift: She’s planning to invite some amazing people who have a deep connection to the land and can teach us a lot with their knowledge. Together, we can learn from their wisdom and join the movement for ecological justice.

Your participation: Once you register, Anushka will share more details about the plays so you can choose a play and character you’d like to read.

Vibe: She hopes to center relationship-building, indigenous knowledge and comfort. Lots of coziness, chillness, snacks, and herbal drinks/hot chocolate.

Note: People are encouraged to show up as authentically as they can and participate as they feel comfortable. We’ll start and end with an optional short collective check-in and check-out.

Accessibility: Her apartment is on the 2nd floor and can only be reached using stairs. No elevator or ramp in the building – really sorry about that. But do let her know if there’s anyway she can individually support.

Attendance: Please only register for this event if you are certain that you can commit to attending on the specified date. It would be unfortunate to have last-minute cancellations. We understand that emergencies can happen, such as health conditions, but otherwise, please be considerate and mindful of not taking up a spot that someone else could use.

When: November 11, Saturday | 1.00 to 4.00pm

Address: Saint Paul St, Baltimore, 21202 (She will email the exact address to folks who have registered closer to the date – so keep an eye for an email!)
