Branch Out Theatre Presents: Climate Change Theatre Action Toronto, a family-friendly eco-performance event to address climate change

5pm-5:20pm
Artistic Director Naomi Tessler will lead an opening welcome and invite artist/facilitator Kateri Gauthier and Branch Out Theatre’s Youth Eco-Theatre Ensemble to present SILENT RESILIENCE a poetic storytelling piece commissioned for the Attunement Sessions through Blackwood Gallery in response to four works curated by Becca Taylor called Living Memories – images by Asinnajaq, Camille Georgeson-Usher, and Sydney Pickering. You can learn more about the set and the artists here. This will be followed by singing and enacting ‘Humble Song’ by Ode’min Kwe Singers. Feel welcome to sing along!

5:20pm-5:30pm
Branch Out Theatre’s Youth Eco-Theatre Ensemble along with Branch Out Theatre performers Zita Nyarady and Naomi Tessler, will perform: THE LAST BEE IS FLYING OVER THE SKY by Pat To Yan of Reframe Theatre, Hong Kong.

5:30pm-5:55pm
Branch Out Theatre’s Playback Theatre Ensemble Presents ‘It’s In Our Hands,’ a playback theatre performance. Come share your stories of community care for Mother Earth and watch as our performers re-enact your stories on the spot through improvisational theatre, movement, and music.

5:55pm-6pm
Join us in taking part in the Climate Ribbon Ritual: an arts ritual to grieve what each of us stands to lose to Climate Chaos, and affirm our solidarity as we unite to fight against it

6pm-7pm
Naomi Tessler and the Circle Branch Out Theatre performers and friends, will lead a love-the-Earth sing-along and story share around the fire with original and familiar songs and stories (all performers and audience members will wear masks during this portion of the event)

Event Tickets: Pay What you Can ($5 per child, $10 per adult suggested contribution, no one will be turned away for lack of funds)

Please bring your own dinner, lawn chair, dress warmly and bring blankets to stay cozy. A local coffee shop TBA is sponsoring the event and will provide hot chocolate by donation. Please bring your own mug if you’d like some!

COVID PROTOCOL: In accordance with Toronto Public Health, we ask you to sit with members of your own household only, and every member of the household will be required to be seated at least two metres from every person outside their household. Performers will be more than 2 metres from all audience members. For the sing-along portion of the event from 6pm-7pm, all performers and audience members will be invited to wear masks while singing – so please make sure to bring a mask with you. We will also provide hand sanitizer stations. Our beverage provider will strictly follow Toronto Public Health protocols when preparing and serving their beverages.
