Graduate Class at Iowa State University on Drama and Empowering Social Change

Dec 152019

This graduate course adopts an interdisciplinary approach that blends analyses of plays, including Chantal Bilodeau’s SILA, and the following CCTA 2019 plays:

Yolanda Bonnell – DRIP
Shy Richardson & Karina Yager – TRÉS MARIAS: CATEGORIES & LUZ
Yvette Nolan – BREATHING SPACE
Caridad Svich – A LETTER FROM THE OCEAN
Lana Nasser – THE BUTTERFLY THAT PERSISTED

as well as a storytelling-based computer simulation model, and strategies from the humanities, social sciences, and climate science.

Through this confluence of disciplinary approaches emerges methods for how the humanities and performance participate in supporting community resilience. All course participants will create, or engage in, a public-facing project based on an issue important to them—a focus that might involve climate change and the participation of this course in as an extension of Climate Change Theatre Action 2019.
