Sky Islands, a non-profit public high school, and Talk-it-OUT, a forum theater program at the University of Arizona, have partnered to develop History-in-Action, a projects-based activity that is designed to be critical, participatory, and contextual.
21st century students are being challenged, in ways that earlier generations did not encounter, to engage in a world characterized by global insecurity, climate instability, and intense rivalry on many fronts about factual claims and ways to make sense of the world. History in Action is designed to revisit and ‘restage’ the enduring questions raised by events and to work toward new and relevant ways of thinking about them and framing new relevant responses.
Sky Islanders and UA Students created skits about the history of food production in the arid South West and will be performing at the University of Arizona. The finale of this performance will be a performance of Alister Emerson’s play SIX POLAR BEARS FELL OUT OF THE SKY THIS MORNING by UA students majoring in French.
