Playing with Fire, an Ecosexual Emergency! is a new film by Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens that explores the powerful connection between environmental destruction and social injustice. It reveals how the escalating crisis of wildfires, while undeniably driven by global warming, also exposes deeper systemic failures.
The film highlights how the federal government has not only struggled to respond adequately to the increasing threat of wildfires but has also failed to provide meaningful support to the communities most affected. At the same time, it critiques the lack of regulatory action against the fossil fuel industry, whose unchecked practices continue to endanger both the planet and future generations.
At its core, the film is about more than environmental disaster; it’s about how the breakdown of natural systems mirrors the breakdown in social responsibility. The film makes a compelling case for the fact that the health of the planet and the wellbeing of its people are inseparable.
Accompanying the screening will be readings of Friends for Life by Himali Kothari, Blood on the Leaves by Madeline Sayet, and Eco-Abortion by Darrah Teitel.
