Tango in Silk

In Tango in Silk, a Chinese dancer and choreographer, Xi Liu, traces the intimate journey of an East Asian woman navigating a new life in the UK. Through a fusion of Argentine tango and Chinese aesthetics – from poised qipao gestures to grounded tango footwork – the piece captures her evolution from silence and hesitation to confidence and integration. Set against a richly layered soundscape that blends Eastern and Western melodies, the work evokes moments of friction, fragility, and cultural reconciliation. It is not only a story of personal migration, but a celebration of cultural hybridity and feminine strength.

Paired with Now by Wren Brian, a brief yet powerful reflection on hope, imagination, and the emotional weight of our times, this double bill asks: How do we move forward in an increasingly fractured world? Now speaks to the emotional fatigue of those who struggle to remain hopeful – and yet still dare to dream.

Sea: The Breathing Matter

Sea: the Breathing Matter is a sensory performance and poetic installation that invites audiences to remember the sea not just as a place, but as breath, as grief, as a shared body. Drawing from personal memories and underwater experiences, the artist crafts a slow ritual space of empathy and connection.

As part of this Climate Change Theatre Action event, excerpts from the play Single Use by Marcia Johnson are gently woven into the performance’s flow – its language echoing through the space like drifting plastic, distant sorrow, or a quiet refusal. After the performance, audience members are invited to use selected words from the play to compose short poems.

Snowflake’s Special

A sweet, funny solo piece by Kevin Matthew Wong that reaffirms the beauty, wonder and feel of the natural world.
