“Your House is on Fire”

Dec 142019

ArkansasStaged joins international theater movement Climate Change Theatre Action to bring Northwest Arkansas an immersive staged reading at Mt. Sequoyah’s Great Hall. Funny, foreboding, and absurd, “Your House is on Fire” presents several 5-minute plays:

Katie Pearl – THE EARTH’S BLUE HEART
Caridad Svich – A LETTER FROM THE OCEAN
Yvette Nolan – BREATHING SPACE
Alister Emerson – SIX POLAR BEARS FELL OUT OF THE SKY THIS MORNING
Hanna Cormick – CANARY

Artists Cole Wimpee, Lacy Post, Abdelrahman (Abud) Metwally, Michael Bell, NaTosha Devon, Tre Smith, and Mischa Hutchings collectively create a surprising theatrical piece interwoven through the short plays. A roving selection of readings and happenings occur amidst a Mid-Century aesthetic of advertising ploys designed to retrospectively examine how corporate culture has shaped our decades-long perspective on relationships between consumer products and the natural world. The performance will generate action steps surrounding Fayetteville’s initiative to end single-use plastic.

“I don’t want you to hope. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. I want you to act like you would in a crisis. I want you to act like your house is on fire, because it is.” —Greta Thunberg.
